Welcome to Matchup Handicapping for the NBA

I created this blog site to provide solid NBA handicapping information in a format devoid of sales gimmicks, boasts, spin and excuses. The information is straightforward and here for all to see and use. Matchup Handicapping is a patient strategy that aims to beat the NBA pointspread 54-58% of the time over an entire season. The season long investment strategy is not to be confused with a "get rich quick" scheme.

Matchup Handicapping uses short term and season-to-date performance and momentum ratings to develop a matchup between two rated opponents and then studies how similarly rated matchups have performed historically versus the spread.Performance (P) measures a team's net point differential over its most recent games in combination with that team's recent home and road net point differential. Typically, the better teams have the better performance ratings.

Momentum (M) is not an indicator of how good a team is, but rather it indicates whether a team's short term performance is better, equal or worse than its season-to-date performance level. Good teams can have poor momentum and vice versa.

Each game compares the above ratings for each team and determines how much better or worse each team is in Performance and Momentum. A pointspread is calculated based on the performance and momentum matchup. Then, similarly rated matchups are researched for their historical pointspread performance.

The betting lines used in my daily picks are the prevalent line among a group of vegas and offshore books taken during the afternoon, Eastern standard time, and may not agree with the closing lines.

Successful wagering on NBA contests can reap large investment returns, but gambling on sporting events is only legal under certain circumstances.
